Evidence Reveals Apple Cloud-Streaming Music Service Imminent

It appears that a cloud-based streaming music service is coming soon from Apple, given that two major sources of evidence have been revealed in the past 12 hours.

According to CNET, their sources indicate Apple has signed a licensing agreement with EMI Music, and has deals closing with Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment. Last month it was revealed Apple had already signed a deal with Warner Music Group. Although rivals Google and Amazon have already launched streaming services, only Apple is actually making official deals with record labels.

Patently Apple reveals Apple’s patent application from 2009 that describes a cloud-based media service that utilizes iTunes. One major aspect of this new feature is the utilization of local storage for streaming media, to act as a buffer. This will eliminate lag and create an experience described what Apple’s patent describes as “seamless and invisible to the user”.

The plan is Apple will reveal their streaming service at the upcoming WWDC taking place in San Francisco on June 6th.
