Next ‘iPhone 4S’ to Have A5, Better Camera, HSPA+ Support?

A recent report from Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek via Forbes claims the next ‘iPhone 5’ will only be a minor cosmetic upgrade with no significant changes. Likely to be named the ‘iPhone 4S’ (similar to the iPhone 3GS), a Fall launch for this device will feature the A5 dual-core processor (currently in the iPad 2), a better camera, and HSPA+ support, but no LTE.

“According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support,”

As for the lack of LTE, Misek claims the Qualcomm LTE chip is not good enough yet for the iPhone 5.

I previously mentioned why Apple doesn’t need to introduce a significant hardware upgrade to the iPhone 4. It’s still capable right now, but it’ll be interesting if Apple drops a ‘new’ iPhone at WWDC, optimized to run iOS 5. Apple mentioned at the end of their recent earnings call that LTE still has a way to go and Apple would be making any compromises.
