Rogers Releases New iPhone Data Value Packs

If you were an early adopter of the iPhone 3G in Canada then you paid the price with the original Rogers’ value and data packs. Well, it looks like Rogers has quietly introduced a couple new data value packs that apply to the iPhone 3G and any other cellphone.

Here are the details of the two new data value packs released on November 26th, and are unadvertised on the Rogers website (what’s new?):

$20 Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
Unlimited Blackberry Internet Service (BIS): Email/Instant Messaging Only

$30 Data Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
500MB of data: BIS, Windows Mobile, or iPhone

3 Year Agreement is required on both plans plus all data overage protection applies. 500MB of data is valued at $25, so the maximum data overage is $75. Some people who have called in have been able to get a $10 credit towards the $30 data value pack, as part of the hardware rebate program. So try your luck if you decide to call in.

These New Value Packs Can Save you Some Money

If you’re on the $30/6GB data plan, plus the $15 visual voicemail value pack, you can potentially save some money here. How? Well, if you’ve been using less than 500MB/month, you can opt for the $30 data value pack and save yourself $15/month ($180/year). You can easily switch over to these plans from your original value/data plans.

Also, I am surprised that Rogers has introduced 10,000 text messages into these data packs. I text often but I don’t know if I’d ever exceed or meet 10K texts in a month. I would have to send more than 333.33 text messages a day to hit 10K, LOL! Maybe it’s part of the Rogers plan to hook you in to spend a bit more on these value packs.

The big question some of you may be asking right now is: “Should I save $15 but lose 5.5GB of data?” Only you can answer that. If you’re a heavy user, obviously you are relishing at the thought of your 6GB data plan. However if you’ve been using under 500MB a month, this is the data value pack you’ve been waiting for. Personally, I will be sticking with my 6GB data plan because I periodically tether my data plan with PDAnet.

Either way, let me know in the comments if you’ve switched over to one of these new value packs!

Thanks Jasper and Daniel for the heads up on this!

You could go online to Rogers site and signup there to see you billing statement etc and you could access your wireless account to see what Rogers had included in this
Value pack. I have no idea where that $10 credit thing came from, however I managed my way thru a sweet talk and got it. I am hoping that there’s no charge for switching data plans….

I just added the $30 data value pack and got the $10 rebate. I only did this because I really wanted visual voicemail as I have had the 1st gen iPhone.

Everything seems to be working great and my bill is essentially the same ~$50 (i always went over with my text messaging in my previous plan).

Thanks for the info iPhone Fan

I tried to get the better plan today but they said there was nothing like that. What exactly are you getting for your $50. I pay close to a $100 after taxes and I only have to $60 iphone data and voice plan. Add in caller display, and early evenings and weekings and after system access fee and taxes close to $100. Help!

    @Ron,
You are one impatient guy. Wait and you WILL get answers. The plan DOES exist, you might’ve been getting a mis-informed representative.
Just kindly tell them, “I read somewhere that there was a new $30 iPhone Value Package that includes (state stuff).”
If they say no, try again. This DOES exist, a bunch of people have this.

ok, after 5 calls to Rogers, I finally got someone who knew about the $10 discount off the $30 iPhone value Data pack. I switched to this, with discount $20/month for 3 yrs, and added a voice plan for $27, which includes early 6 pm evening and weekend calling, and 250 daytime minutes. So before tax I save $13/month from the $60 iPhone pack I was on and I also save $7 cause I don’t need to buy call display for a total savings of $20/month. SWEET!

Well I heard about this 30 dollar value pack so I called about an hour and a half ago and added it to my plan, then I found this thread.

I just got off the phone with the customer relations department and they adjusted it for me so now I get the plan for 20 dollars a month.

At first the guy acted as though he didn’t know what I was talking about, but I kept persisting that my friend with an iPhone just got this exact same plan for 20 dollars and is on the 10 dollar voice plan as well and that I am upset with the fact that I’m being told I have to pay more.

After “checking some things” a few times, he found the “discount package” as he referred to it, and said something about a promotion where you get 33.33% off the 30 dollar value pack, which is where you save 9.99 and end up paying 20.01

Now I too am on the 10 dollar calling plan, with a 20 dollar data plan so i’m also only paying 30 a month + access fee + Tax for
250 weekday mins, unlimited weekends, unlimited early evenings starting at 6PM, Network calling, 10,000 Text Messages, Caller ID, Visual Voicemail, Who Called, 500MB of data.

My advice to anyone else who wants to get results from rogers is ignore their automated system and start saying things like “customer relations” whenever it asks what you are calling about, say that a couple of times, then you’ll be asked to press 1 if you’re calling about an iphone, do that, and you will reach a representive of a higher tier with more authority and discount options at their disposal as you’re effectively speaking to the cancellation department who’s main objective is to retain you as a customer. I don’t know if Rogers offers the 10 dollar voice plan anymore or not, it was quite some time ago that they were offering it to new customers only and I was able to get it by bluffing that I was gonna switch providers.

Hey Jesse, it’s great that you were able to get the plan. We have the same plans, for 30$ that’s the best deal I’ll ever get with an iPhone on rogers. Now if only I could get the system access fee removed, like what they have at fido. Oh well, it’s still better than paying $60 a month! Btw the $10 plan is still availiabe from where I live ( Winnipeg)

    Hello all!
I am going to switch to Rogers from Fido and get an Iphone with a contract. Comparing plans from Rogers and doing some research, I found this discussion where I got many useful info.

I have an acquaintance of me who is a manager of a Rogers Wireless salon in Toronto. After I read this thread, I sent him an e-mail to clarify this $10 discount for I-phone 500 MB Data plan to take it together with $17.50 voice plan and $8 for 400 incoming minutes. He replied that there are two different Data plans available now:

First one is for $30 and gives access to email and Internet as well.

Second one has only unlimited email access and is on special right now. It costs $20 and customers think that they get something special. The plan gives you unlimited email only but no access to internet at all.

I would like to ask guys who have already switched to this $20 500MB Data plan, – can you browse Internet on your Iphones? Is the said above correct?
