TELUS iPhone Coming November 5

As both TELUS and Bell Canada have now announced that they plan to bring their own 21 Mbps HSPA+ network to Canada in November, both companies have finally announced that the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will also be making their debut on TELUS and Bell.

Bell announced the availability of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on its HSPA+ network starting November 4, 2009.

In a similar move, TELUS has now announced the availability of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on its own HSPA+ network starting a day later, November 5, 2009.

Both companies have been quiet on available price plans and device pricing has been released to be identical to Rogers/Fido:

TELUS/Bell Canada Device Pricing

iPhone 3G 8GB (Black)

$99 (3 year contract)
$599 (no contract)

iPhone 3GS 16GB (Black/White)

$199 (3 year contract)
$699 (no contract)

iPhone 3GS 32GB (Black/White)

$299 (3 year contract)
$799 (no contract)

If the above pricing is any indication, it would seem many iPhoneinCanada readers were correct that the carriers will simply allude to collusion tactics to keep plan prices high.

Inventory is expected to be minimal for both TELUS and Bell, as both Rogers and Fido have experienced national iPhone shortages for months.

I’m left wondering how TELUS/Bell customers feel about getting iPhones in November, when traditionally Apple releases new iPhones in the summer months. Considering that wireless carriers have rigid upgrade policies, this essentially puts Telus/Bell customers at a technological disadvantage.

Rogers/Fido will get a new iPhone in summer 2010 while Telus/Bell customers will have to wait until winter 2010 to now get a device which at that time would be approximately five months old with the next iPhone due the following summer. Thoughts?

On a similar note, Apple Stores across Canada will be selling all iPhone devices from each of the four carriers (Rogers, Fido, TELUS, Bell) at their newly made “iPhone Activation Zones“. i wonder if Telus/Bell have learn from rogers history. in fact i was talking to my buddy (works at my local rogers store) he was telling me that rogers took years to perfect their service, and even today they do minor tweaks now and then. him and i were wondering if the launch of Telus/Bell HSPA Iphone network is going to be an epic crash lol. time will tell. being locked for 3 years on a new service Telus just got, it would make me a little nerved..

If anyone remembers the Epic BlackBerry Curve (telus) issues everyone went through including me. they advertise Youtube, GPS an all that lovely stuff, but when Youtube didnt work on the phones Telus looked the other way and said we dont support youtube lol . my GPS never locked. They said it was a known issue *cough* 2 years later, my brother uses my Telus curve now, guess what... still no GPS lol

so i hope Telus learns from past mistakes and dosnt shaft new contract signers this time around, i will be watching this forum waiting to see the Telus FAIL thread lol *cheers*

Sorry but I don't see where Bell has explicitly stated the iPhone is coming out on November 4th like Telus has. Where did you get that information?

Telus sent out an e-mail today saying the phone will not be available on November 5 in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

I just got word from Telus that the iPhone will no be available in Saskatchewan or Manitoba on Nov. 5... this means it's not gonna be available across Canada on the initial launch. I hate when they do this.

If you read the fine print in Telus' e-mail, it states that the phone price is subject to 3 year subscriptions of a smartphone package worth 50$ or more. So there's the answer you're all seeking.

Even if Telus puts out the same pricing. If you travel the coverage is so much better than Rogers. There are many areas in Alberta that are still edge with Rogers. If they are 3g with Telus it is a beneficial move for those in those edge areas that Rogers has not yet updated.

Yay for competition! As for the hardware pricing, this didn't surprise me one single bit. There's an upfront cost per iPhone that goes directly to Apple. From then on, I'm not sure, but perhaps Apple gets a monthly payment from the carrier until the unit is paid for, but who knows, this is only MY GUESS. I'm assuming because the fees are pretty standard across the world. All carriers in a given geographic area have the same hardware price for the iPhone's.... it's the plans that differ. Even the hardware cost of the iPhones at AT&T in the states are the same as here in Canada (lucky us with the currency differences).

Apple is the only company I know with its hand this deep in the cellphone carrier cookie jar (mmm, nice alliteration)... even the carrier has to have software to support the iPhone (Visual Voicemail), which is very unique. RIM may have their own servers that support their Blackberry's with extra features, but that's different... besides Apple has their own "iPhone/iPod-touch" servers too which support "Push" technology for applications.

No shockers with the hardware pricing. You're right, it will be more interesting when the voice/data numbers are released.
