Tim Cook To Speak With Samsung About Lawsuit Settlements Today

Right when we thought the final decision would be given to the jury, Apple and Samsung are now back to settlement talks. Tim Cook will speak to Samsung CEO Kwon Oh Hyun over the phone in attempt to settle various infringement disputes. Hopefully past settlement talks aren’t any clue of what’s to arise.

Bloomberg has the report, via an anonymous tipster:

The companies’ lawyers will report to U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in federal court in San Jose, California, on the outcome of today’s telephone discussion between Apple’s Tim Cook and Samsung’s Kwon Oh Hyun, according to the person, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private

With the jury ready to begin decision factoring worksheets later today, this is the last straw for both Apple and Samsung. They will need to settle disputes in a timely manner before the afternoon.

Judge Lucy Koh asked both companies to talk things over upon the closing testimony of the case. She was “pathologically optimistic” that both sides would work things out. If they fail, the jury will receive the decision.

The last time the CEOs went head-to-head was during May. A single resolution failed to come about during their talks. At the time, Geesung Choi was the president of Samsung, since then, Kwon Oh Hyun has filled the CEO position.

An ongoing lawsuit, in which began during April of 2011 after Apple accused Samsung of copying patented designs, will come to an end Tuesday, August 21st, 2012. Thus far, progress hasn’t been made, and the two companies have actually piled up more accusations than originally filed. As a result we have seen many prototypes and leaked company statistics that we probably would have never heard about.

Just stay tuned with us, we will update you on the talks later today.
