Yep, its now official. Ted Rogers himself said it, Rogers and Apple have reached a deal. Now its just a matter of launch date. The Iphone could be coming very soon. This is no rumour now. Rogers stock has just climbed over this news. As for competition, dont expect any U.S carrier to compete for Canadian wireless spectrum. They are just not interested. So being the only gsm carrier, it looks like Rogers will be the only company to reep the benefits of this product. As a shareholder of this company, I am very happy. For those of you who complain about data prices in canada, you can also blame Bell and Telus for not being so competitive. Nobody is standing in there way not to switch to GSM. They could invest if they wanted to. But maybe they dont care about delivering leading wireless products and services. They have other things to worry about. Perhaps, home phone, which right now they are taking a hit for it.

I don't consider this any indication that it is coming to Canada (unless you see reference to an actual carrier). Rather, it's more about Apple supporting existing customers who may be French Canadian since they can live in the US or abroad where the iPhone is officially available. This is also evolutionary and expected for better localization.

Regardless, I think it's inevitable that the iPhone will appear here. Of course, there must be a priority list (for whatever reason) of which languages to support and it is promising to see Canadian French on the top of that list since I'm assuming the largest concentration of French Canadians are actually here in Canada.
