Fido Updates iPhone Value Pack To Include Name Display

by X1Zero on November 3rd, 2009

The iPhone 3.1 firmware update brought many new changes and updates to the iPhone but one of those changes was finally supporting Name Display.

Many carrier plans include (some don’t!) features such as Caller Display and Name Display but what many people do not realize is that those two features are not the same.

To summarize, Caller Display displays an incoming caller’s phone number while Name Display shows that caller’s name that they have on their account. This will occur even if the person who is calling is not in your iPhone contact list.

Well, effective November 3, 2009, Fido will be updating their $10 iPhone Value Pack to include Name Display. New customers of the value pack will have the feature enabled right away but existing customers will have to call Fido and make the switch to the new value pack (same price).

  • Call Display with Name Display (Name Display is new)
  • Visual Voicemail

I didn't know v3.1 did this. I've stayed at v3.01 because of 3.1+ bugs (battery issue and I also don't want to lose tethering if Rogers decides to break it out and charge extra for it).

I have the $20 Rogers iPhone Value Pack with unlimited SMS/MMS. Does anyone know if it comes with Name Display?
  • If you have the Smartphone pack, then yes.

    Otherwise, no.

I called Fido just a moment ago (3pm Toronto time) and the rep had no idea what I was talking about...until I quoted the VPISRA000 code...at which point he said oh ya it is available but apparently not working till tomorrow. Of course he told me that part AFTER he removed the existing value pack and added the new/old value pack. He wasn't sure if I'd have any voicemail, call display, who called or anything till later tonight or tomorrow........always great to tell you these things AFTER they make the change LOL!

Fido tech level 3 told me that name display only works on the rogers network, so any land lines or other cellular providers won't display their name. He then stated that telus & bell would need to add this feature to their system before we could see their names?
