Hey all!
Thanks for tuning in to another edition of X1Zero’s Corner.
Today’s discussion will be a review of the “Griffin elan Holster Leather Case” plus the results of last week’s contest give-away for this Griffin case!!
Griffin elan Holster case review
As many of you know, I am a fan of Leather Pouch cases and as such, I received a new leather case last week from Griffin called the “Elan Holster”.
After using the case for about a week, I have come to agree that I really like it. What is really nice about it is that it fits both my first gen and 3G iPhone, so if I am out somewhere potentially messy, say camping, the first gen and this case would be a winning combo. So, what is the case like you ask?
First off, I like that it is leather. The leather is very nice and wrapped around the entire outside of the case. Moreover, there is a very elegant design that runs along the left side and along the back of the case and the “Griffin” logo nice and small in the bottom right corner (I am not a fan of cases that display the company logo overly large because I think it looks tacky, but I do like the Griffin one here).
The sides of the case are exposed but are held together with two elastic type pieces which are also leather. These also prevent the iPhone from falling out sideways. On the back there are two slits for the included belt-clip. What is really nice about this design is that by having two slits you can carry the case on a belt either vertically or horizontally. Many cases only have one clip, either vertical or horizontal, but with the Elan Holster, you have a choice.
The inside walls of the case are lined with suede (it feels like suede at least) and among the included belt clip, the package includes a screen protector film and polishing cloth!
After doing some testing with it, I am pretty happy. It holds the iPhone pretty tightly and the phone does not move around, so there is almost zero chance of it falling out. Plus, you do not even need to install the belt clip, so you can just keep the case with iPhone in a jacket or pant pocket or something, which is usually what I prefer. However, there are only two things that I do not particularly like. One, the iPhone is very difficult to take out of the case. I would imagine that over time that the case would stretch out allowing this task to be easier, but initially its pretty hard to take it out. Second, there are no holes at the bottom the case, so it is difficult to hear the iPhone ringer. However, you can still feel vibrating (if you have that on as an option) pretty well.
Overall, I like it. I give it 8.5/10.
The case can be picked up at Griffin’s website for $29.99.
But we’re not done yet. Last week, we concluded a contest regarding the Limited Edition ‘X1Zero’s Corner’ icon. Because of the overwhelming response, I decided that everyone who sent me their Home Screen was automatically entered to win this case today. Well, that winner is:
Jason Trumble!!
Congrats!
And that will just about do it for today folks. Check back at X1Zero’s Corner this Sunday because I have recently been acquainted with the most addicting iPhone 3G game I have ever played. It is called “Toy Bot Diaries” and it is made by a local Vancouver, BC game studio called “IUGO Mobile Entertainment Inc.”. It is available in the iPhone App Store right now and I will have a review and details coming at you soon!

to be honest I’m not really a fan of leather cases because they they are just too clunky and I plan to stick with my Invisible shield and iPod video case combo LOL.
Good job on the review dude!
Congrats to the winner too
Hey x1, if your a fan of holsters without beltclips, check out the Belkin pouch on apples’ web store. I like it as the leather secure tab at the top does double duty as the phone eject tab. Just lift it off the Velcro and give it a pull, poof, your phone is an inch and a half out of the case! Peace.
Oh ya, it works with 1st units as well.
I though X1Zero’s Corner was every Sunday, not Saturdays?
sometimes there’s just too much in the week to post on one day!!
I used this case for about 2 months and then while brushing against a couch while it was clipped to my jeans pocket the stitching on the side of the case ripped completely and gave way spilling my iPhone on rough ceramic tiles.
I am not pleased.
