Will ‘iPhone 4S’ Be The Only New iPhone Launching Next Month & No iPhone 5?

Share:

Majority of rumors until now have hinted at two new devices that will be announced  at Apple Medial Event which is expected to be held on October 4th i.e an upgraded iPhone 4S and a completely re-designed iPhone 5. However, according to a recent report by BGR, a new research note from analyst Brian Blair claims that Apple will be introducing only one new iPhone model, the so-called “iPhone 4S” at next month’s media event.

As suggested by the many existing rumors, iPhone 4S will be identical in appearance to current iPhone 4 with only difference in the new model being an 8 Megapixel camera, an A5 dual-core Processor and perhaps a re-designed antenna.

According to the Wedge Partners analyst:

“We expect the focus of the new iPhone will be iOS 5, a speedier A5 processor and a higher resolution 8 MP camera with a small possibility of a larger 4 inch screen. We believe the casing will be largely similar to the iPhone with some particular modifications to the antennae. We don’t expect a second, dramatically different iPhone to accompany this as we don’t think Apple needs to have 3 models in the market to address the high end, mid-tier and low end since the iPhone 4 (with memory lowered to 8 GB) will drop to $99 and effectively attack those markets.”

Well that pretty much explains the total lack of “leaked parts” for a redesigned iPhone 5 which has already led many analysts to believe that there is no such device scheduled for launch this fall. That said, it is possible that iPhone 4S, or whatever Apple decides to call it, could be the only next-generation iPhone model we get next month. What do you think?

ugh….I really hope this isn’t the case. I’ve been sticking with my 3gs only because I wanted a much more different experience. Hell I would rather they keep the current 4 as the entry level phone and still have the 5. Anyway, wouldn’t sales of a 4s lack a little now that most people have set hopes an an entirely new device?

I sold my iPhone 4 hoping that the 5 would have a bigger screen. Crossing my fingers.

i’ve said that all along lol…..(although i’d love to have a redesgned phone!)

No iPhone 5 = I’m ditching Rogers and going over to Wind. Only reason i’m saying with rogers right now is because of the iPhone.

Nope.  Sales won’t suffer at all.  Whatever device they introduce will sell by the boat load.  Most iPhone freaks will sell body parts to upgrade to an 8 megapixel camera alone.  It’s kind of frightening, actually.

I will never be more disappointed in an Apple product launch. It’s been too long for them to realease a small upgrade like this.

One thing I COULD see however is a 4S launch in October and perhaps the iPhone 5 launching later on??… Yeah maybe not… But who knows

If they’re only swapping out the camera lens and adding the A5, why didn’t/couldn’t they launch back in June/July like previous models in previous years?

I strongly expect a redesign, given the delay (in comparison to previous launches).

The 3GS received minor upgrades, launched within a year of the 3G, and was sold-out for months. However, Android was still getting its legs and there was no reason for Apple to play their ace in the hole. Different market today demands that Apple launch a redesign to stay ahead of the competition.

I could see the reason for a “delay” being iOS5. If they’re making minor upgrades, they’ll want to be able to market the new features of iOS 5 to make it feel that much better than the iPhone 4; especially the PC-free feature, as that opens up sales to more potential users.

I don’t give rats ass what is looks like… as long as it has a 64gb capacity I’m in. I’m outa space on my 32.

I may be wrong, but I think this year’s event is going to be one of the biggest and flashiest with the introduction of a lot of cutting edge devices (iPhones, iPods and…). Why? In everyone’s view, Steve Jobs has always been Apple and Apple, Steve Jobs. Now, with him (hopefully temporarily) gone, Tim cook is left to fill in Steve’s very big shoes. Apple needs to make a positive impact with Tim Cook’s lone entrance to product introductions and to become Apple’s FRONT FACE. Both for the sake of fans and investors that is. So, with iPhone being what started the current Apple revolution, I think this year’s iPhone introduction is going to be a very memorable event. Perhaps even one where Steve Jobe passes the crown to Tim Cook.

This is the best news on the new iphone I’ve heard all year!  If they give it a 4 inch screen and better performance but with the same design I would be a happy camper!

I really hated the taperd design and aluminium backing.. so yeah this is great news!

If they only release a 4S there are going to be A LOT of disappointed people out there. Not only because people were expecting an all new device, but because LTE capable android devices have been around for a while now and android devices with NFC are starting to be released. If the only updgrades are a camera, A5 and slightly bigger screen, I think apple will be in trouble in terms of market share…..

I was under the impression that iOS5 was supposed to be the biggest change, rather than the hardware.

I don’t think Apple would have sat back idly with all these iPhone 5 redesign rumours flying for the last several months.  Seems to me they would have done more to manage expectations if they were only prepairing a slight upgrade.  Then again, I never thought iPad 2 would have launched without Retina Display after all the rumours said it was a done deal, but that worked out pretty well for them.  Either way, I’m set with my iPhone 4 for at least another year.
