Mobile Fitness Tracking is here for the iPhone – Gym Technik

Share:

Hey Folks!

This is Barryn here, and welcome to my inaugural post here on iPhoneinCanada.ca! I will be posting every now and then to help out while our resident iPhone guru is on vacation in Dubai.

Just to give a little background, I unfortunately (or fortunately, however you want to look at it) only came to worship Mr. Jobs after my iPhone 3G purchase when they were released here in Vancouver earlier this year.  Since then my iPhone has somehow become grafted to my skin and I can’t put it down.  I only recently bought a new PC laptop, but when the time comes (which will probably sooner than later), I know my next purchase will be a Mac!

Ok, let’s get on to the review for Mobile Fitness Tracking for the iPhone.  I wouldn’t exactly call myself a fitness freak, but I definitely take an interest in it and have been working out for almost 10 years now.  So when I came across Mobile Fitness Tracking from Gym Technik for my iPhone, I was interested right away.  Setting up your own account takes less than a minute, and best of all is totally free!

The rest of the website and getting yourself started is as easy as the registration.  You can create custom workouts using their extensive library of exercises, complete with animated images and descriptions on how to perform those exercises.  Can’t find an exercise?  No problem, you can add your own custom exercise to your routine. From registration to having my first exercise routine setup, took less than 5 minutes for me!  Here’s what the Co-Founder and CEO has to say about their service:

“Gym Technik is a cutting edge mobile fitness tracking service that allows you to connect your iPhone to your fitness routine. Members of this service can setup their entire workout routines on the Gym Technik webservice and when at the gym – Use their iPhone to track their exercise stats, track their body composition, view visual exercise guidance, reference data for previous exercise, upload progress images and much much more. All this information synchs automatically to the members web account, where they can view informative charts and graphs to optimize their workout routine”

Like the name implies, this program keeps track of your progress, from how much weight you’re lifting, to your own weight and body fat percentages.  The website takes your information, and creates graphs to show you how you’re progressing.  This might not sound like a great feature to some, but even after my limited use so far, it is great at keeping you working your hardest and pushing yourself to surpass your personal bests.

I have only been able to use this program for about a week now, but my initial impressions are very positive.  From beginners to people who have been working out for a while, this is a great tool to either help you get started, or to help push you harder and further in your workouts.  From their website, it looks like there are many great features to come, which will only make this an even better program than it already is!  So head over to www.gymtechnik.com, give it a try and let me know what you think!  Maybe we could have an iPhoneinCanada.ca fitness challenge??

Could not find this in the App Store. searched for ‘mobile fitness’ searched ‘gym’ and even searched for the delveloper and still nothing. Went to their website and it wasn’t user friendly….home page only said iPhone was supported, but could find no page to talk about it.

    so where is this app?

Something has got to get me motivated to take care of myself, maybe I’ll give it a try?

First of all, great post Barryn! Can’t wait for the next one. There are many fitness programs available and this one looks pretty good according to the website. I have to give it a try sometime. I heard LiveStrong is a good app as well.

Shadow Dragon, it’s not an app, it’s run through their website. Take a look at the front page of their website at the “Getting started at a glance” and it’ll explain it there. Basically you set up your workouts online, and then access them by opening Safari and going to http://m.gymtechnik.com. Hope that helps!

  • I’ve actually been looking for something like this for awhile now. The other app on the app store similar to this is really only a database of exercises.
