Speculation New iPods to Be Unveiled at Apple’s ‘iPhone 5’ Event Next Week

Apple confirmed the rumoured September 12th media event this morning when it sent out invites to the media. The invite noted a mysterious shadow that resembled the number 5, leading to some ongoing outrageous speculation about what that cryptic message means.

As for what else could grace the stage, 9to5Mac speculates on what they believe to be a new line up of iPods:

Details on the changes coming in these new iPods are currently scarce, but we believe that there will be at least two new/updated iPod lines and possibly a third.

All these new lines will come in multiple colors, one of the lines will come in two size capacities, and the other two lines will come in a single storage capacity.

With the current iPod nanos and iPod shuffles both available in multiple colors (and with the nano currently available in two capacities and the shuffle in one), we think it is likely that new iPod nanos and iPod shuffles are launching next week.

Last week rumours noted a refresh to the iPod nano that would bring WiFi capabilities to integrate iTunes Match. These new iPod rumours aren’t new, as speculation was also noted in July.

Typically, Apple’s Fall media events have been iPod-related but that changed when the iPhone 4S debuted last year. The current 4th generation iPod touch has been sitting dormant in terms of refreshes, as it has been two years since we last saw an update. That was also the last time the iPod Shuffle and Nano was updated at Apple’s September 1, 2010 music event. This event was also live-streamed to Macs and iOS devices.

Could we see live streaming this time around for the next iPhone? Who’s waiting for new iPods?
