iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Confirmed By i0n1c; Claims Its “Covered” Already

iOS 5 public release is scheduled for 12th of this month, just 2 days before the official iPhone 4S launch in stores. We are all pretty much aware of the fact that every beta of iOS 5 as well as the Gold Master release can be jailbroken on all supported devices except the iPad 2 i.e iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (old & new bootroms), iPod touch 3G/4G and the original iPad. However, the jailbreak solution is only tethered at the moment which means you need to plug your device into a computer on each reboot or restart after powering off to boot into jailbroken state.

Just today, a prominent figure of jailbreak community, @i0n1c tweeted something very interesting which almost confirms that iOS 5 untethered jailbreak is ready and is probably awaiting the official release of iOS 5 before it can be made public. He tweeted the following:

“As far as I know iOS 5 untether is covered by other people already. Guess who :p”

We can’t be certain of anything yet such as who he is referring to or how early we could see a release, but since Chronic Dev Team has already claimed to have been “closing in on an untethered jailbreak solution” for iOS 5 and have discovered about 5 new jailbreak exploits in iPad 2 during MyGreatFest jailbreak convention, it is pretty much an open secret. Don’t you think?!
