RedSn0w Update To Allow iOS 5.x Downgrading With Saved SHSH Blobs

DevTeam’s @MuscleNerd has tweeted something very interesting today. We all know that downgrading back to a lower iOS 5.x firmware once your device has been upgraded, is not possible even if the SHSH blobs for your device have been saved offline. This is because with the introduction of iOS 5, Apple has changed the way .IPSW firmware files are signed on restore. But here comes the good news. The next RedSn0w update will make use of your saved iOS 5 SHSH blobs making iOS 5.x downgrading possible.

Here are the tweets:

@MuscleNerd: “Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches)”

@MuscleNerd: “For time being, please just use most recent TU to save 5.0.1 blobs+APTicket…redsn0w will do the rest, should you need to restore.”

Last week, @notcom also updated the famous SHSH backup utility TinyUmbrella with support for iOS 5.1 beta blobs. So, in the light of today’s downgrading possibility, now is the time that should use TinyUmbrella to save your SHSH blobs for 5.0.1 if you haven’t already!
