13-Inch Retina MacBook Pro to Debut Alongside ‘iPad Mini’ Says Report [Update]

The all but ‘confirmed’ October 23rd media event for the announcement of the ‘iPad Mini’ will also feature the launch of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, reports 9to5Mac:

Alongside the smaller iPad, Apple will debut a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, according to a consistently reliable source at a high-profile U.S. retailer.

This new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina Display is said to pick up the thinner and lighter enclosure of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that was released in June.

The new 13″ Retina Display MacBook Pro (known as D1 internally) will apparently be sold in a couple configurations. Back in June at WWDC, Apple announced the 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Back in late August, 13″ MacBook Pro Retina Displays were rumoured to hit production, while Digitimes claimed these new models started mass shipping last week.

Who wants a 13″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

Update: AllThingsD confirms their sources also note a new 13″ MacBook Pro will launch alongside the new ‘iPad Mini’, corroborating 9to5Mac’s report.

    I DO I DO!

Was actually just wondering earlier tonight when these were coming, I need a new laptop like, yesterday.

  • What about the iMacs? I’ve been holding out on buying an iMac for almost a year now in anticipation of a new one being released.

I’m going to buy a couple of the new 13″ Macbook Pro’s with Retina display. Not sure what is the point of releasing a smaller iPad. The ‘regular’ sized iPad is already small enough as is.

I would rather wait for the Macbook Air to have Retina when it comes to 13 inches. Off course I already own a Macbook Pro 15 Retina.

I would love one … But I can’t justify spending the money while my MacBook and Mac Mini still run well.

why are they showing an iMac in the picture? are they releasing new iMacs as well?

  • 13? Retina Display MacBook Pro (aka My Next Laptop). My MacBook Air needs an upgrade. 🙂

Hopefully they are able to get at least seven hours of battery life out of this thing. 🙂

This is what i’m not clear about: if the 13″ MacBook Pro (retina) uses the “thinner & lighter” profile of the MacBook Pro 15″ (retina), won’t it basically be like a MacBook Air with a retina screen? Presumably the main differentiator of the Air at this point will just be price, because of cheaper screen, and on-motherboard graphics chip?

What am I missing? Price aside, why else would you get a 13″ Air instead of the 13″ rMBP?
