Apple’s 2013 Back to School Promo Said to Start this Week, iPhone Purchases Eligible

Apple’s Back to School promotion did not start in mid-June like it did last year, but according to 9to5Mac’s retail sources, the annual promo could start this week and possibly as early as tomorrow:

Apple will likely begin its annual Back to School promotion this week (perhaps as soon as tomorrow), according to Apple retail sources. The promotion will give eligible students an iTunes/App Store gift card with the purchase of a Mac, iPad, and for the first time, an iPhone. The gift cards that come with Mac purchases will be worth 100$ while the cards accompanying the iOS Devices will be worth $50…

The biggest change this year according to the report is the iPhone is included as part of the promo for the first time. So for purchases of an iPhone or iPad, students will receive a $50 iTunes Gift card, while Mac purchases will receive $100 cards. These gift cards can be used towards any digital purchase from iTunes.

Last year the promo went from June 11 to September 21. This year’s later start could indicate the promo will last longer into the fall. In late May, Apple reduced the education pricing on its 13-inch MacBook Pro by $100. If you’re about to buy a Mac or iOS device, hold off until this promo starts.
