Apple Launches 13″ MacBook Pro (Non Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program

Do you own a 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar)? If you do, Apple has just launched a battery replacement program for a “limited number” of units manufactured from October 2016 to October 2017. The issue at hand is related to a component which may stop working and cause the battery to expand:

Apple has determined that, in a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, a component may fail causing the built-in battery to expand. This is not a safety issue and Apple will replace eligible batteries, free of charge. Affected units were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 and eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

Customers are told to enter in their serial number at this page to see if their unit is eligible. If your device is eligible Apple will replace your battery for free.

Apple says the program “does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models.”

Hat tip to Actualités Apple for spotting the new battery replacement program, which is also available in Canada.
