Apple Said to Be Launching New, Improved iMacs This Quarter

Well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities predicts Apple will refresh its iMac product line with new processors and improved product quality. If you are hoping for a Retina display on other iMac models, well, you might have wait a bit longer, because the analyst doesn’t mention such improvements, but greater colour saturation instead (via MacRumors).

In a note to investors issued today, the analyst predicts up to 100% growth in iMac sales (quarter over quarter), with 1 million units shipped by the end of September. The claimed iMac refresh may be overdue: Apple introduced the 5K iMac last year, while the 21.5-inch models were refreshed two years ago.

We believe Apple will introduce new iMac models in 3Q15, which are expected to have key selling points such as more powerful processors and much better display quality. We predict the panel will use a LED phosphor material called KSF to notably boost color saturation.

There have been rumours of an 8K iMac, but Kuo neither confirms nor denies them. First to talk about such a computer was Apple supplier LG, which claimed the iPhone maker would release an 8K iMac in 2015.
