OS X El Capitan Will Launch On September 30th

One omission you’ll have notice if you watched Apple’s just-concluded ‘Hey Siri’ event, during which the company revealed a duo of powerful new iPhones, a long-rumoured new, larger iPadnew Apple Watch colours and accessories, and a long-overdue Apple TV update, is the complete absence of anything to do with the Mac lineup.

For such a celebrated and important platform, it came off as a little odd, though CEO Tim Cook did note at the beginning of the keynote that “we have a big day ahead, and there’s no time for updates,” and with the event clocking at over two hours long, it was a big day indeed.

Again, the keynote ran without mention of the Mac or OS X, unless you were keen-eyed enough to read Craig Federighi’s email while he was demonstrating the 3D Touch features of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Yep. OS X El Capitan, which has been in public beta since July, will officially launch on September 30th.

Apple often likes to hide interesting jokes and pokes at its executive staff members during these demonstrations, and in this case it seemed like a clever way to garner just a little publicity for OS X on this busy, busy day.

Have you been running the El Capitan betas? What have you thought of the new OS so far? Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for more from today’s ‘Hey Siri’ event!
