Apple may drive the developer community crazy by introducing another screen size, if we are to believe a rumour whispered by an alleged Foxconn insider (via Gforgames). As it turns out, Apple has been busy lately, as it needs to launch an iPhone with a 5-inch screen to diversify its line of smartphones, the source suggests.
You may recall that earlier rumours claimed Apple would release a next-generation “C” model with a 4-inch display. Since then, time has passed, and the screen has grown another inch. Now we have a device with a 5-inch display.
In terms of tech specs, the alleged 5-inch model (iPhone 6c?) will be powered by an A9 SoC and incorporate an 8 MP camera, a dual-LED flash, and a “conservative design.” Unfortunately, the sources weren’t able to take a pic of the device, which should be in production by now, but they have prepared a sketch. You can find it inserted below.
On top of that rumour, here is another one — by the way, it is in line with previous ones: a photo showing pink iPhone 6s models has appeared on Chinese social media (via Cult of Mac). Actually, we’ve heard claims about a rose-gold iPhone 6s to complement the current colour palette, but it seems like Apple has decided to proceed with pink.
Finally, here is some news from Digitimes: while Qualcomm remains the sole supplier for the modem chips found in the next-generation iPhones, Apple is looking to diversify its supply chain, so Intel has a chance to win modem-chip orders for the 2017 iPhone models, sources say. The fact is, both manufacturers have the same supplier: TSMC. The difference is that Qualcomm’s chips are built using TSMC’s 20 nm process, while Intel’s are built with 28 nm process technology.
Apple is said to be announcing new iPhones, iPads, and Apple TV at a special event on September 9, Buzzfeed’s sources say. However, there is no official date yet.
