A Quick Way To Refresh The App Store On iOS 8 [TIP]

If you are an iOS user, you may have opened the App Store expecting an app update that has not appeared yet. In order to see any available app updates, the ‘Updates’ tab of the App Store must be refreshed.

In the past, refreshing the App Store would require you to close the app from the multitasking view and reopen it. The folks at iDownloadBlog have discovered a neat trick, which allows iOS 8 users to refresh the entire App Store without having to force close and restart the app.

Refreshing any tab in the App Store can be done easily by following the three steps below:

  1. Launch the App Store on your iOS device.
  2. Tap the tab you wish to refresh 10 times.
  3. The App Store will then refresh!

See? It’s that easy. There are some points of note, however:

The tap that you use to switch to a tab counts as a tap, so, it may seem like only 9 taps in total.

This work on both the iTunes Store app, and the iBooks Store. Oddly enough, the iBooks Store only seems to require 5 taps, not 10.

The following trick only appears to work on devices running iOS 8 or later. It is not clear whether Apple silently added that feature or if it is just a bug in Apple’s latest mobile operating system.
