Amazon Declares Vancouver and Edmonton Have the “Most Pampered Pets” in Canada

Amazon.ca has released sales data in their fifth annual list of naming Canada’s top cities when it comes to “most pampered pets.” From August 2016 to August 2017, per capita sales data from cities with at least 100,000 residents concluded Vancouver and Edmonton atop the list of “most pampered pets” in the country.

Here’s the rest of the list, rounding out the top 20 cities:

  • Toronto, Ontario
  • Markham, Ontario
  • Surrey, British Columbia
  • Brampton, Ontario
  • Hamilton, Ontario
  • Halifax, Nova Scotia

Amazon says Vancouver topped the list in the dog category, buying the most accessories, toys, treats and grooming products. The city also ranked first for the small animals category, which includes everything from guinea pigs to hamsters.

Toronto ranked the highest when it came to bird and reptile product sales, such as heat lamps, toys and treats. Ontario had the biggest footprint in this year’s list with nine cities in the top 20, while BC was second with four cities.

Burnaby in BC ranked the highest for cat products, while Winnipeg was first when it came to fish and aquatic animals.

The online retailer says data was for products sold for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and small animals.
