According to CNET, Apple has acquired a small consulting company, Particle, in particular for its HTML5 talent:
Apple has snapped up Particle, a San Francisco-based creative consulting company that specializes in Web applications and marketing projects using HTML5, CNET has learned.
Particle was launched just over four years ago and has backing from celebrity Justin Timberlake, which turned to the company to help create his social video service Robo.to. Particle specializes in HTML5 and has previously had clients such as Google, Motorola, Amazon, Yahoo, Sony, and Apple themselves.
CNET notes the the deal happened in September:
The deal went through late last month, though not all its less than a dozen employees stayed on to work at Apple. Those who did are listed as “creative technologists” as well as one “user interface engineer,” according to their public LinkedIn profiles.
Particle’s Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Aubry Anderson, formerly consulted Apple from 2006 to 2008 while other of the company’s employees have worked with Yahoo.
Apple’s acquisition of Particle is seen as an “aqui-hire” as the joining of these new employees will surely assist Apple in their HTML5 product pages along with iAd and iCloud web interfaces. Particle notes on their website they have “great Apple relationships and execution experience around iAds, iTunes Extras, and Apple.com.”
