Reputed Australian leaker Sonny Dickson has just shared some new details about Apple’s rumoured Echo-like smart speaker’s possible design and features with MacRumors, claiming that the iPhone maker is in the process of finalizing the product’s design, which is internally codenamed B238. “It is believed to carry some form of Beats technology,” Dickson said, while adding that it will run a variant of iOS software.

Apple is expected to market is Amazon Echo and Google Home competitor as a Siri / AirPlay device, featuring a Mac Pro-like concave top with built-in controls. Dickson’s source, which he referred to as “someone inside Apple,” described Apple’s smart speaker as “fat” like the Google Home with speaker mesh covering the majority of the device. He further said that the device could be unveiled at WWDC 2017 in June.
Previous reports have claimed that Apple’s smart home device would be able to control appliances, locks, lights etc. through Siri voice commands, just like Amazon’s Alexa. One report by Bloomberg also claimed that some of the prototypes in testing include facial recognition sensors, and that the device could have a built-in camera.
Apple’s WWDC 2017 will take place June 5 -9 in San Jose, California.
