Apple Retail Store Set to Open in Surrey, British Columbia

Metro Vancouver is set to receive its sixth Apple Store as Surrey is slated to have a retail location open in Fall of 2013. According to people familiar with plans but speaking on the condition of anonymity to iPhoneinCanada.ca, internal hiring and transfers for positions were posted May 22, with internal staff transfers to be confirmed in July. External hiring will commence in mid-June.

No details were provided regarding the exact location of the store. Possible locations could include Guildford Town Centre, which began a three phase $280 million redevelopment to renovate and expand the mall, with final construction to be completed in 2014.

Another possibility could be The Shops at Morgan Crossing, an outdoor outlet style mall with various fashion retailers.

Current Apple retail stores include locations at Pacific Centre and Oakridge Mall in Vancouver, Richmond Centre in Richmond, Metrotown in Burnaby and Coquitlam Centre in Coquitlam. If you live in Surrey, where would you want an Apple Store to open?

They better use bullet proof glass there… we all know how it goes down there in Surrey.

You do make a valid point.

You do know the Vancouver has been victim of a robbery already right? They used bear spray which is surprising as I thought heroin syringes and cracks pipes were the normal method of weapons in Vancouver.

This is going to be AWESOME, all locations are pretty much equal distance from Surrey right now which is about 30 min away.

It is a good point but Apple will now be looking at a city

    like Kelowna instead…

I’m surprised they haven’t selected a site in Kelowna or Kamloops yet. Both have sizeable trading areas, and post-secondary educational institutions.

Or even the province’s capital, Victoria.

Either site would be good, but I’d prefer the south Surrey site @ Morgan Creek because I live nearby. Theft of iPhones, and the such, are more likely to happen near main transit hubs, so Morgan Creek would be safer. The Apple store in south Vancouver was robbed a few months ago, so you never know… Either way the store would be the farthest out in “the valley”, so it would be very busy…

I was going to suggest metal bars and metal detectors on top of bullet proof glass but I guess that goes against Apple’s store philosophy. Oh well, it’s Surrey we’re talking about…. I’m sure Johnny Ive could come up with some idea embedding walls of electric fence to the store front :D

They do have an on-campus mac store in UBC there? No?

    not sure, might be.

Kelowna has an iWorld Connect and a Simply Computing in and across the street from the mall. Apple store would be a welcome change.
