Apple to Hold iPhone 5 Media Event on October 5th?

Here’s your Saturday rumour of the day: Apple will hold a media event on October 5th, according to a ‘source’ at PocketGamer.

Our inside source says there will be a press conference announcing the new hardware on October 5th, with retail release occurring a week later.

…The symbolism works well too: iPhone 5, iOS 5, October 5.

Here’s a refresher of former media event dates:

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 (invites sent out on September 2): New iPod line up, iTunes 8, iPhone OS 2.1

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (invites sent out on August 31): New iPod line up, iTunes 9, iPhone OS 3.1

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 (invites sent out on August 25): New iPod line up, Apple TV, iTunes 10, iOS 4.2

The last rumoured date for a media event was September 7th, but that was date was crushed immediately.

If the October 5th date is true, then we can expect invites to be sent out the last week of September. October 5th is a Wednesday, so for a product launch to take place week later it would also be on the same day. Apple rarely launches products on Wednesdays, as last year’s iPhone 4 was launched on a Friday, and the iPad 2 similarly as well.

Previous rumours have slated the iPhone 5 to launch on October 15th according to France Telecom’s CEO, and Sprint blacking out dates for employee holidays from September 30th to October 15th. A former TiBP report also stated the iPhone 5 would launch on October 7th, plus a rumour Telus would launch the device on October 1st.

With so many speculated dates, it’ll make your head spin. It’s time to break out the iPhone 5 advent calendar.
