“Apple” Trademark to Also Cover Jewelry and Watches

According to a report by MacRumors, Apple is broadening its company name “Apple” to also cover jewelry and watches. While some of Apple’s trademarks on the “Apple” name have previously included goods from Class 14, which is focused on precious metals/stones and products made from those materials, the new move strongly hints at company’s widely expected “iWatch” which may be released later this year.

The report details that trademarks are broken down into 45 different classes, in order to organize the types of goods and services being registered for protection. Among the recent expansions for “Apple” is Ecuador, where Apple filed a new trademark application in late December specifically to add protection in Class 14 for a long list of product types including jewelry and watches. Applications for “Apple” trademark in other countries, including one in Mexico filed earlier this year, also focused solely on Class 14.
