Apple TV has been recently receiving plenty of updates to include an abundance of new channels. According to a Facebook post by a World Wrestling Entertainment representative, the new 24/7 WWE Network app will be available as a dedicated channel on the Apple TV starting on February 24.
In a conversation the fan specifically asked if the WWE Network app will be directly available on the Apple TV. Here is the response he got from the representative:
In order to experience WWE Network on an Apple TV, you must have a second generation or later (black) Apple TV and be a WWE Network subscriber. Once WWE Network is available, you will be able to launch the WWE Network app directly from your Apple TV. Let us know if you have further questions! Thank you.
Here is the screenshot of the Facebook post, which has been since taken down:
The World Wrestling Entertainment Network was first announced in January and will provide users with a 24/7 streaming service that includes original programming, classic matches, documentaries, and more.
When the service was first announced, WWE executives noted that it would be available directly through their website, on game consoles, and various smartphones and tablets, including the iPad, but there was no specific mention of the Apple TV. Michelle Wilson, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer for WWE, said that the service will be available on a connected device which could not be mentioned. It is worth it to note all the attendees at the service announcement were given Apple TVs to take home.
Most recently, Apple has added the Red Bull TV channel to the Apple TV, which was launched in Canada at the same time as it was in the US. This leads us to believe that Canadians will be receiving the WWE channel on the Apple TV as well. Apple has not made any official comments on the report.
Apple is expected to make major changes to the Apple TV some time this year, and with all the recent partnerships and rumours of Apple building its own content delivery network, the Apple TV could see dramatic changes this year.
The WWE Network will launch on February 24 at 9am Eastern Time for $9.99 per month. Fans will be given a free one week trial.
