According to the judges’ comments, here’s why Apple’s iPhone 6 took home the title:

“With all round improvements, from designs, to specs, to functionality yet remaining true to the core this proposition offers unparalleled performance and unmatched consumer success”.

The LG G3, which tied the iPhone 6, was described as “Affordable excellence with winning design – its edge-to-edge screen offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today.”

John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd., said in a statement:

“The GSMA is very proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Global Mobile Awards, which provide an outstanding platform to recognise world leaders in mobile innovation and diversity. It is an incredible achievement to have been announced as a Global Mobile Award winner today, as the high calibre of entries is a true reflection of the dynamic, creative and inventive thinking that will drive our industry towards the next 20 years.”

As for the ‘Best Mobile Tablet’, that went to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, beating out Apple’s iPad, while the ‘Best Wearable Mobile Technology’ category went to Motorola’s Moto 360 smart watch (we expect Apple Watch to take this award next year, right?).
