According to a new report from 9to5Mac, Apple may adopt larger capacity single-cell L-shaped batteries for its 2018 iPhone lineup.

LG Chem, the arm of LG that builds batteries, will be launching a single-cell L-shaped battery for at least one new iPhone launched this year. The expectation is that it could fit within the successor of the iPhone X, which could mean it could have a higher-capacity battery than the current iPhone X’s 2716mAh battery.

The new single-cell L-shaped battery would replace the current two-cell L-shaped battery in the iPhone X. If the report is true, the new single-cell L-shaped battery could make its way to future devices as well.

Apple is rumoured to release a total of 3 iPhone models this year. The new models will include 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch variants with OLED displays, and a 6.1-inch version that has an LCD display.
