Best Buy iOS App Now Supports Apple Pay, Coming to US Stores This Year

While all of us Canadians are patiently (impatiently) waiting for Apple Pay to arrive in our beautiful country (the latest rumours are saying November, and we sure hope those rumours are true), support for the service is spreading like wildfire in the United States.

Hot on the heels of Discover announcing Apple Pay support, Best Buy has updated their iOS app to allow users to pay using the service, and has also revealed that Apple Pay will be accepted in stores later this year:

Starting today, Best Buy customers can use Apple Pay to make purchases in the Best Buy app when using an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. A free update is now available in the Apple App Store.

All U.S. Best Buy stores will begin accepting Apple Pay later this year.

Today’s consumers have many different ways to spend their money and we want to give our customers as many options as possible in how they pay for goods and services at Best Buy.

The acceptance of Apple Pay in the Best Buy app is the latest enhancement for our mobile platform. We are opening a technology innovation office in Seattle this summer to focus largely on mobile and will continue to implement new tools to enhance the customer experience in this important growth area.

Now that I’ve got an Apple Watch on my wrist, the wait for Apple Pay seems substantially harder than it was before. TD Bank has stated that support is ultimately up to Apple at this point, and I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that the very first bank to get Apple Pay support in Canada will be my new bank of choice.

How excited will you be when Apple Pay hits Canada? I’m certainly looking forward to never pulling out my wallet again.
