Today, PayPal and TransferTo announced that they are bringing Mobile Airtime Top-Up to Canada. TransferTo is a company that operates a platform that allows people to transfer prepaid mobile credits across the border.

As a result of the partnership, Canadians can now use their PayPal accounts to top-up their prepaid mobile phones while in a foreign country. TransferTo already supports over 400 carriers in 100 countries, and there are no transfer fees associated with using Mobile Airtime Top-Up.

In order for a customer to use the service, they will need a PayPal account and the mobile phone number of the recipient. In a statement, general manager of PayPal Canada Cameron Schmidt said:

“Mobile phones help connect people with their communities, and give them access to education, employment, and essential medical and financial services. With today’s announcement, Canadians can extend a lifeline to a grandmother who needs to frequently call her doctor in India, or help a sister access the Internet from her mobile phone in the Philippines.”

Josephine Bungcayao, who immigrated to Canada from the Philippines, said:

“Every month, I send money to my mother back home in Manila to pay for her phone usage. I am so grateful PayPal allows me a way to easily top up her prepaid phone so she can stay in touch with me and her family and friends.”

Customers are able to top-up a prepaid mobile phone using their smartphone, tablet, or computer on www.paypal-mobiletopup.ca.
