CBC’s 2014 FIFA World Cup App Surpasses 1 Million Downloads

The CBC has announced its 2014 FIFA World Cup app has exceeded 1 million downloads combined on iOS and Android platforms, which also includes its French-language counterpart as well.

The app was made available in early June and offers live streaming coverage of the FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil through the ability to choose from six live feeds, to go with on-demand replays and highlights.

The CBC says since the tournament started, Canadians have spent more than 10 million hours watching video content across all of their digital platforms offering FIFA World Cup coverage.

The public broadcaster also notes to date, over 30 million Canadians have tuned in to watch FIFA World Cup coverage on CBC/Radio-Canada in total, which includes 1 in 6 Canadians  (roughly 5.8 million) watching live coverage from a digital platform.

In late June, the CBC announced its FIFA World Cup app had been downloaded over 800,000 times.
