Forget the iPhone 5, Check Out This ‘iPhone Air’ Concept [PICS]

Next generation iPhone 5 rumours have been ‘spotted’ in the wild, plus leaked cases have apparently been seen as well. iPhone 5 concepts have appeared here and there, but today we’re casting aside the iPhone 5 to introduce this sexy ‘iPhone Air’ concept from Ciccarese Design via iPhoneItalia, based on the uber-thin MacBook Air:

What do you think? I think this looks beautiful, although it would definitely be top heavy if it were a real product.

First time I have ever liked the look of the white iPhone over the black. That looks amazing!

That edge to edge display and thinness is stunning. However, I don’t see this being a possible design for Apple as I’m sure there would be accelerometer issues and gaming would basically be impossibly uncomfortable.

*sigh* Manufacturing more news than exists for Apple products.

I hope we are never forced to use an edge-to-edge screen; when you have a OS that depends on swipes right near the edge, it’d just get annoying.  If you want to use a case, it’d be extremely difficult to develop a good one with that sort of screen.  Lastly, that taper would make the phone such a pain to use horizontally.

It looks pretty, but it’s awful as far as practicality goes.

A couple of glaring design problems:

It is top heavy in portrait mode meaning wrists will fatigue quickly. Blackberrys are a joy to use because the battery placement makes the device bottom heavy.

This design is useless in landscape mode.

…except in the current Blackberry Torch, as when the slider is extended it’s top heavy.

I think the thought of Apple behind closed doors during one of their meetings while someone coming up with this concept is hilarious!

“Just think of it! Take the iPhone 4. Beef it up to keep the consumers happy. But it needs to have wow-factor. We’ll shave off some of the back casing at a 45 degree angle like it’s iCousin the MacBook Air and call it ‘iPhone Air’.”

“Jobs… Just when I thought your concepts couldn’t get any dumber, you go ahead and design something like this… AND COMPLETELY REDEEM YOURSELF!”

Door stop is right, the wedge design is an eye-sore.  Looks better even all around.   Heck use the extra space at the bottom for a larger battery.

This edge to edge crap just doesn’t work. Not a fan at all. Apple likes gestures… This phone won’t work with gestures.
