Fortnite’s Popularity is Attributed to its Appeal to Women: Report

According to a new report from The Star, Fortnite’s popularity can be widely attributed to its successful appeal to women.

Fortnite, a fun fusion between The Most Dangerous Game and Survivor, has become one of the hottest games in the world. The game currently has about 45 million players, with a large mix of mobile and console gamers.

A report from research firm Apptopia notes that approximately half of Fortnite’s players are women. For any of Fortnite’s rival games, this number drops to one in three or even fewer.

Epic Games definitely made major efforts to have Fortnite appeal to women. The game is one of the first to actually feature female characters in the game and in its ads. Fortnite is also easier to play and looks more cartoonish than other shooting games.

Epic Games’ Fortnite made $296 million in revenue in the month of April across all supported platforms. The numbers are incredible given that you can download and play the game for free.

Fortnite does not take the traditional free-to-play model, which allows users to buy their way to victory or buy tools that give you advantages over other players. Instead, the game just offers cosmetic items that allows users to show off to their friends and opponents.

Fortnite is available as a free download on iOSMac, Windows, PS4, and Xbox One.
