HomePod 11.4 Software Update Brings AirPlay 2, Calendar Support

Along with the release of iOS 11.4 this morning, Apple also released an 11.4 software update for its HomePod speaker, which is set to launch in Canada on June 18 for $449.

The update says it brings support for AirPlay 2, which debuts stereo pairing for HomePod and multi-room audio, plus also adds Calendar support for users in the US, UK and Australia.

Homepod 11 4 update

The release notes say the advanced beamforming feature of HomePod means you’ll get a wider soundstage compared to a traditional stereo pair.

The update comes in at 192MB and can be installed through the Home app on your iOS device and is somewhat tricky to access. For Canadians who purchased a HomePod from the U.S., they know what I’m talking about.

How to update the software on HomePod? First, launch the Home app, tap on the Home tab, then tap the location arrow in the upper left. From here, tap ‘Home Settings’, then tap on your home, scroll down to the Speakers section, then tap software update. You do have the option to have automatic updates toggled on.

Apple says HomePod will support Canadian French later this year, as well as Calendar support too.
