IBM Will Purchase Up To 200,000 Macs Per Year, Over 50% of Employees Switching From Lenovo PCs

According to a new report from MacRumors, IBM is moving forward with plans to continue moving employees onto Apple’s platforms. Apple and IBM teamed up on an enterprise partnership one year ago, which saw the companies pushing iOS devices and apps in the enterprise.

A few months ago, in an internal memo, IBM announced that it was planning on purchasing up to 50,000 MacBooks for employees before the end of 2015. In a new internal video, IBM’s CIO Jeff Smith has revealed that IBM could actually purchase between 150,000 to 200,000 MacBooks annually.

In the video (seen below), Smith recalls a conversation that he had with Apple’s CIO Niali O’Connor about the possibility of a massive Mac deployment at IBM.

The video notes that the initiative could see 50-75 percent of IBM employees eventually converting from their current Lenovo ThinkPads to MacBooks.

Over the past year, Apple and IBM have been working closely to create specialized enterprise-focused iOS apps. With the new initiative that will see more than 50 percent of employees switching to Mac, the partnership between the two companies will continue to grow.
