Apple Informs Developers Mac Apps Will Soon Be Eligible For Volume Purchase Program

Apple program

Apple’s Volume Purchase Program, that allows educational and business institutions to purchase iOS apps and books in volume and distribute them to students, teachers, administrators, and employees, will soon be offered to Mac App Store as well. According to TUAW, Apple has given developers a heads-up that Mac apps will soon be eligible to participate in the Volume Purchase Program.

A message forwarded by an anonymous source notes that that the Volume Purchase Program for educational institutions and businesses will also allow purchases of multiple copies of Mac apps at one time in the near future, just like it does for iOS apps. By participating in Apple’s program, developers can choose to offer a discount to educational institutions, at which point institutions purchasing 20 or more copies of an app in a single order can get a 50% discount.

“We’re pleased to announce that Mac apps will soon be eligible to participate in the Volume Purchase Program for Business and Education. The Volume Purchase Program allows businesses or educational institutions to purchase multiple copies of your app at once.”

Developers are required to have their apps enrolled in the program to be available at the educational discount.
