MacBook Pro with Touch Bar Owners Express Concerns Over Limited Battery Life

Owners of Apple’s new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar have been reporting issues with their units not delivering the all-day battery life promised by the company on its website.

Among other platforms, Apple’s support community and Reddit are filled with complaints from customers claiming they aren’t getting even half of the ten-hour battery life that was advertised when they purchased the device.

“I just received my new 15″ MacBook Pro with touch bar. The battery life is horrible!!! I have Safari open with 6 tabs and with 95% battery, I am told that I have under 3 hours of battery life left! I thought these things were supposed to get 10 hours? I ran the battery down in 3 hours last night only browsing the web. I wasn’t watching videos, just browsing. Is there something wrong with my laptop?”

It’s still unclear whether the battery life issue is hardware or software related, however, ZDNet reports that it could be an issue with the discrete AMD Radeon graphics chip. Apple is reportedly investigating the issue, but the company has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

Several users on Apple’s support community have been returning their MacBooks for a full refund. Have you been having any issues with the battery life on the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar? Let us know in the comments below.

The only way I can get the advertised battery life, is to turn the brightness on the screen to minimum and attempt to make out screen content.

Does anyone know if there are other stores where you’re able to buy a Pro with 16GB of RAM other than from Apple?

I really see little improvement over my 2012 retina, and mine still lasts over 4 hours using flash sites. Actually when they say surfing the web, if they are on sites that use flash it will drain batter life like mad. especially with the dual cards.

Currently, I am using the new 13″ Pro and my experience could not be more different then this guys. However, when ordering my configuration I did note that Apple stated all their battery life numbers where based on the i5 CPU (for 13″ model). My current experience on the 13″ is 8 hours or more on the battery.

While some maybe disappointed I still think it is incredible that Apple could pack this much power into a fully loaded 15″ and still get 5 or more hours of runtime in such a lite compact package. Every manufacture has the same limitations, so it comes down to how you are going to balance your product.

At work we have some fully loaded i7 based laptops for remote emergencies and these things look and feel like they have a 5 house power motor in them.

I totally agree. I just think that if Apple had branded this the new MacBook Air with price to match, people would have loved it. Pro connotes “MORE” but people felt they got less. Less ports less battery. Less practical features (mag power cord), less than the Surface Pro (no touch screen, no pencil) but more gimmicky consumer features (strip of emoji icons)
