MobileMe To Be Available Online Only

Yesterday it was reported that Apple was pulling the retail boxes of MobileMe from its stores.

The news is now completely confirmed, as Apple has removed the boxes from their stores and the company is now making MobileMe online only. An internal screenshot below reveals the details:

Starting today, Apple is no longer producing the retail box version of MobileMe. Once you have sold your remaining MobileMe retail boxes, please direct customers to sign up for MobileMe online at:

Interestingly, it seems that users cannot make MobileMe purchases online and instead can only sign up for a free trial of the service. There should be more news coming next week at the iPad media event on March 2nd.

I would’ve jumped on the MobileMe wagon a long time ago but all the names i want are taken so i’m sticking to Google Apps.

I still get prompted to supply my credit card information when I sign up for the trial though…

  • the trial method is probably the only way to go in to a full subscription.
If you already had a trial, then it would probably forward you straight to the 1 year payment.
knowing Apple they probably designed it that way just for simplicity (only a guess)

  • All those people Selling discounted copies for 69.99 over ebay might have to find the next product to mess around with 😛 makes me wonder if thats part of the reason Apple is doing this in the first place.

I was at the Apple store at the Toronto Eaton Centre and they still have a full stock of MobileMe on their shelves.
