Netflix: Canada is the No. 1 Country When it Comes to ‘Binge Racing’

Just what the heck is a ‘binge racer’? According to Netflix, they are new fans that “strive to be the first to finish by speeding through an entire season within 24 hours of its release.” In other words, crazy people (just kidding).

The company says there are 8.4 million members who have decided to Binge Race and the pace of this behaviour has increased 20 times over from 2013 to 2016.

“There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story — whether it’s the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favorite TV show.” said Brian Wright, Vice President, Original Series, in a press release. “Netflix allows you to watch in a way you never could before, and there’s nothing better than seeing a show engage our members and ignite a passion for viewing.”

As for Canada, Netflix says we have “the highest percentage of 24 hour finishers”, with the top binge choice being Trailer Park Boys. Canada is the top country when it comes to binge racing worldwide, with the U.S. and Denmark in second and third place respectively. The top binged show was Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (don’t be ashamed, folks), followed by Fuller House and Marvel’s The Defenders.
