Russian Regulatory Database Leaks Upcoming 2016 MacBook Models

identifiers

Just ahead of Apple’s ‘hello again’ Mac event on Thursday, where the company is expected to unveil at least three new 2016 Macs running the latest macOS Sierra, Russian trademark filings have leaked the model identifiers of the upcoming new MacBook models. According to 9to5Mac, they are labelled as ‘portable personal computer models’ and have model identifiers A1706, A1707 and A1708.

The same source correctly leaked the iPhone 7, Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch Series 2 a week before Apple’s September event last month. The Russian regulations are mandatory for companies to launch new electronics product that use encryption and cryptography technologies, which encompasses almost all of Apple’s product line.

Last week, a KGI report hinted that Apple is planning to launch three new MacBooks at its media event, while today’s product identifiers are also believed to correspond to two new MacBook Pro models and a new ultrathin 13-inch MacBook as a sibling to the existing 12-inch model.

Furthermore, the existence of the products in the database suggests that the new 2016 MacBooks will be available to order very soon, most likely going up for sale the same day as the launch event i.e. October 27th.

Other than the model numbers and a summary description of ‘portable personal computers models’, the leak however does not give out any more details, such as product specifications or expected pricing of the upcoming 2016 Macs. We’ll certainly know more later this week. Stay tuned!
