Here’s MasterCard’s Samsung Pay Demo vs Apple Pay [VIDEO]

Samsung announced its mobile payment system Samsung Pay (sounds familiar) yesterday at Mobile World Congress, which will be available to its new flagship Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones.

Samsung Pay is based on LoopPay’s technology and will simulate the magnetic stripe from your credit card, plus also use tokenization and NFC, similar to Apple Pay.

MasterCard released the following demo of Samsung Pay yesterday—check it out below:

Here’s Apple Pay for comparison’s sake, from the company’s September 2014 keynote:

As you can see with Samsung Pay, users need to swipe up from the bezel to activate it, whereas with Apple Pay, it just seamlessly turns on when an NFC connection is detected. Samsung updated their fingerprint sensor to a touch variant (because the Galaxy S5’s swipe sensor was garbage), essentially making it like Apple’s Touch ID.

A Samsung Pay launch in Canada wasn’t mentioned as the service will debut in the U.S., South Korea and expansion later in Europe and China.

Apple Pay is rumoured to launch this month in Canada, with all eyes on Apple’s ‘Spring Forward’ special event next week as a possible time for the announcement.

I know you’re a blog about Apple stuff but your articles all feel strongly opinionated rather than focused on delivering facts. It would be more useful to me to have an unbiased comparison to Apple alternatives without the whole underlying Apple rocks! Samsung sucks! feel to these articles.

  • Appreciate your feedback!

Though I do believe it has improved, I agree. There’s still too much author induced iphone circle jerking.

Two or three years back you could never find articles critical of Apple on here, but in the last while there’s been less shying away from reporting on things that might suggest Apple products are not infallible.

Anyway, it’s easy to be a comment critic, so I’ll also send my thanks to the authors here. Even if there is too much evident bias, this place has kept me up to date on iphone related matters for quite some time.

  • Thanks Tim, means a lot 🙂

  • Luv you long time!

Do you post the same way in Andriod forums?

  • Joe

I only own Apple products. But I’d still prefer to just get the facts and make an opinion myself.

  • Marco

what’s the name of this website again…?

  • FragilityG4

The facts are in the article, don’t get caught up in the authors opinion which he is entitled to put in seeing that this is an iPhone forum. Besides, name one news outlet, blog or mainstream, that is not saturated with opinion.

The Samsung S6 smashes the iphone 6 in every aspect. Beauty and the beast in one.
It’s byephone. What a fantastic piece of design and technology the Edge version.

  • Phil

So apple only gives you one available credit card to pay with? Oh wait video is only started when card was selected while other showed choices. Plus Samsung pay will work at over 40% more places than apple pay that’s big.

  • Jason

Learn to speak english, stop writing the same way you text you sound very uneducated.

Both side are the argument are lame. isheep and fandroids alike. If you’re in Canada this technology will not see the light of day for as long as our banks can fight it. So basically everyone is being a scrote. Move on to the next topic to argue about…heard apple has a new “smart watch”. Looks nice but how does everybody feel about it?
