Samsung Under Investigation Over Apple’s Abusing “Wireless Technology” Claims

Share:

We have learned from Reuters this morning that Samsung is currently under investigation by South Korean regulators over abusing wireless technology patents. We learned previously that Samsung owns a majority of the industries LTE patents and had plans to sue Apple if a 4G capable iPhone was released. Considering LTE is an industry standard, Apple should have rights to provide customers with the service without being sued.

The report never specifically stated if the investigation was over Samsung’s statement at Apple, but that is our assumption. Our source has more:

The FTC is investigating whether Samsung is unfairly competing in the market by abusing its dominance in wireless technology patents. Apple filed its complaints earlier this year, said an FTC official, who is not authorized to talk to the media.

European Union regulators have also been investigating Samsung for possible breaches of antitrust rules by accusing rivals of infringing its technology patents.

All this drama is a result of Apple’s landmark win in the Samsung case during late August. Samsung obviously wasn’t thrilled learning about the loss; resulting in an out pour of anger.

We will have to watch this situation closely and provide you with any additional details later.
