“While many people from around the world consider the Super NES to be one of the greatest video game systems ever made, many of our younger fans never had a chance to play it,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.

“With the Super NES Classic Edition, new fans will be introduced to some of the best Nintendo games of all time, while longtime fans can relive some of their favourite retro classics with family and friends.”

Packshot

Back in April, Nintendo discontinued the NES Classic Edition, which sold 200,000 units in the USA. We now probably can guess why it was killed–to prevent cannibalizing sales of the SNES Classic Edition. This also plays into the scarcity factor which Nintendo does better than anyone; currently, Switch consoles are still nearly impossible to find.

This will sell like hot cakes, folks. SNES titles like Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II were the best games to play with friends back in the 90s. Who’s going to get one?
