Steve Jobs Still Involved with Apple’s Operations–From Home

The surprise announcement of Steve Jobs’ medical leave almost a month ago shocked many in the tech community. With Tim Cook taking over the reigns, many wondered if Steve was still active in day-to-day operations at Cupertino.

The Wall Street Journal reports tonight that Steve Jobs is still involved, according to Yukari Iwatani Kane (she’s always well-informed):

Three weeks into a medical leave he took “to focus on my health,” Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs is staying closely involved in the company’s strategic decisions and product development, according to people familiar with the matter.

The 55-year-old Mr. Jobs, whose ailment hasn’t been disclosed, has been taking business meetings at home and on the phone, these people said.

He also has been seen on Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., campus and in public in Palo Alto, Calif., with a company executive, said people familiar with the matter.

We’re not surprised that Steve Jobs is still making decisions, from home despite his health concerns. The man is passionate about his work, and I bet it’s even easier now that he can use…FaceTime from his iPhone 4!

Good to hear. Hope he gets better.

  • Steve is indeed very passionate. There’s a reason why Apple is bigger than ever. Kudos to them 🙂

  • He is the reason this company is as great as it is. it makes me a little depressed to think of what apple could become if he ever had to wash his hands of the company for whatever reason from retirment to health or other.

When he stated that iPad was going to be his proudest legacy (or something to that effect) I took that as a sign that it would be the last thing he was heavily involved with. But 6 months later he was also clearly very invloved with the new MacBook Air. It’s good to see him stepping back and focusing on his health, and I hope Cook can empower him to step back a little more. Jobs has changed the world in a number of big, big ways, andI hope he can be satisfied enough with what he’s done to start winding down.

The Apple Steve left a bunch of years ago was not nearly the powerhouse it is today. I believe the course is well set for where Apple’s role in future tech development is. Hopefully the people who stay at the helm have it clear. Although I wouldn’t really doubt it. So far the formula has been quite a success. Get well Steve, you’re still pretty young!

Oh, and please guys left at the helm: enable Flash on the iOS devices while Steve ain’t looking. That’s the only big BS decision made at Apple, allegedly by >Steve.
