The AIRE Mask Could Power your iPhone By Breathing

A newly proposed device could soon be using the power of your lungs to recharge your iDevices. The AIRE mask, as it’s known, will use tiny wind turbines within a breathing mask to harness the air you breath into an electrical current.

Although it’s still looking to go into production, the hope is that by using the AIRE mask to recharge your devices it will reduce the carbon imprint required to charge your phone. The device can be used in almost any situation from exercising to siting at your computer.

‘It can be used indoors or outdoors, while you’re sleeping, walking, running or even reading a book. Besides saving energy and helping environmental preservation, it also encourages physical exercise. Its energy is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

‘Though many of our modern gadgets offer benefits, they tend to use a high amount of electrical energy. Harnessing energy from human activities and transforming it into electricity is possible and is a great solution.’

In theory, the AIRE mask can be used while you’re sleeping as opposed to plugging your iPhone into the wall at night. The question remains as to how much this would actually reduce the carbon imprint and who would be caught dead wearing the thing in public.

Do you think that you’ll see the AIRE mask soon? Could they offer different colours such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Reptile to increase the appeal among the geek crowd?

Anyone here ever used a respirator? Have you ever seen how much gunk and moisture gets built up in them. I have a feeling this thing has not had all the kinks worked out of it.

Didn’t Robin Williams have a joke about this in Weapons of Self Destruction? A power source for his car?

I don’t care how odd I’ll look out in the wilderness when I need battery juice most running offline maps on my iPhone. It offers greater certainty than solar batteries especially during rainy seasons. Clean it more often if you are worried about trapped dirt! I think it’s a good design for outdoor use.

If they make an underpants version, my MacBook Pro is ready to go 24/7.
