Uber Reportedly Erased Evidence Before Revenu Quebec’s Raid on Montreal Offices

According to a new report from the CBC, a former security employee at Uber said the company remotely erased data when Revenu Quebec raided their Montreal offices last year.

Samuel Spangenberg worked for Uber in San Francisco as a forensic investigator at the time of the raid. In a statement, Spangenberg said that Uber remotely erased all data from the computers in the Montreal office as soon as the raid begin. Spangenberg even revealed that he assisted in the data removal.

Revenu Québec has always alleged that Uber tried to block access and delete information during its raid, which is something that Spangenberg now backs up.

After the raid, Uber took Revenu Canada to the superior court to challenge the validity of their search warrants. In May, Superior Court Judge Guy Cournoyer wrote Uber’s conduct upheld the warrants saying the company’s “had all the characteristics of an attempt to obstruct justice.”

Uber attempted to appeal the case, however, the court refused to hear the case again. Uber is now attempting to have its case heard by the Supreme Court of Canada.
