‘Wello’: The iPhone Case That Tracks Your Vitals

The ability to measure vitals such as temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen level was rumoured to be part of Apple’s forthcoming iWatch. But while we are waiting for the device to reach consumers, there is an iPhone accessory that does all that — within a few seconds. Introducing Wello, the health tracker disguised as an iPhone case (via FastCoDesign).

Okay, so maybe Wello isn’t the ultimate and most sophisticated medical gadget, but it does have a solution for those who want to track the aforementioned vitals. To do that, users only need to hold the iPhone horizontally with their fingers placed on the sensors (as shown in the image — see below) for a few seconds.

Since it is made of microelectronics and nanosensors, Wello measures your vitals, and since it is connected to the iPhone over Bluetooth, it transmits the data to the iOS app, where you can visualize it in a simple form. Users can also measure lung functions with another accessory (included in the package), or if they have third-party health-tracking accessories, they can sync them with the app.

Another great thing about it is that it is multi-user-friendly, meaning you can track vitals for your family members separately within the app.

Wello’s founder, Hamish Patel, is hoping to make the technology available to millions of users, mainly targeting users diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension. The device is available for pre-order in 43 countries already.

Wello costs $199, it requires an iPhone 4s or later, and it ships for free globally. Pre-order here.
