Wemo Mini Smart Plug Gains Apple HomeKit Support with Software Update

Wemo has announced this morning its Mini Smart Plug can now support Apple HomeKit, made possible through a software update, rolling out today.

HomeKit support means the Wemo Mini Smart Plug can now be controlled by Siri, integrated into your scenes with other HomeKit devices, plus also accessible from the Home iOS app.

Wemo says their Mini Smart Plug “is the first Wemo product to leverage Apple’s software authentication for HomeKit to enable compatibility without the use of other hardware.”

Once this software update is installed, you’ll be able to control your Mini Smart Plug with Siri from your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and HomePod, on top of the Wemo iOS app. Users will be able to sync lights with sunrise or sunset or other schedules, plus setup an away mode to randomly turn lights on and off.

“We have sold more than one million Wemo Minis and with Apple’s new software authentication of HomeKit, our customers can easily integrate their Wemo devices with the Apple Home app and Siri, to enjoy the full Apple experience of home control,” said Justin Doucette, senior director of product management for Wemo, in an emailed statement to iPhone in Canada.

Wemo Mini Smart Plugs will see this HomeKit update roll out today, with all customers set to receive it by the end of next week, available in the WeMo iOS app. This means the plug now supports HomeKit, Alexa and also works with Nest.

According to the company, other products are set to gain HomeKit later this year, such as their Dimmer Light Switch.

You can buy the Wemo Mini Smart Plug on Amazon.ca for $29.99, as it’s on sale for 40% off right now.
