Fantastical 2 For iPhone [Review]

Fantastical 2 for iPhone was created by Flexibits and features an all-in-one replacement for your calendars and reminders.

Less than one year later, Fantastical 2 comes as a paid upgrade with great features including a redesign for iOS 7, reminders support, voice dictation support, a new week view, background app refresh and more.

Upon first launch, Fantastical 2 allows you to import your existing calendars and reminders from iCloud. Then, the app presents you with a short tutorial showing you some of the new gestures included in the app. Navigating the app with these new gestures make it fast and efficient to navigate around all your calendars and events.

Fantastical 2 looks very similar to the stock calendars app on iOS 7 and brings with it a lot of the great features.

My favourite feature in Fantastical 2 is the new week view. As shown in the image above the new week view gives you a nice overview of your week and on a 4-inch screen it looks especially great. Navigating and scrolling around in the week view is simple, fast, and fluent.

My only gripe with Fantastical 2, which actually has more to do with Apple, is you cannot get events to appear in the calendar notification center widget, unless you also use the stock calendars app.

If you are looking for a great replacement for your iPhone’s stock calendar app, Fantastical 2 is a fantastic app. Currently Flexibits does not offer an iPad version of this app and I hope they release one soon. Below is the official Fantastical 2 launch video.

Gary’s take on Fantastical 2: the app is a pleasure to use with its smart language support and intuitive gestures and animations. This app is very polished and refined. However, I still prefer the month overview layout from Calendars 5, where I can actually see events on each day, instead of having to tap on a day to see specific events in Fantastical 2. It really comes down to what you look for in a calendar app.

Fantastical 2 is now available on the App store for the limited launch price of $2.99 and will later move to $4.99.
